Description A certificate of historic appropriateness is issued when the proposed changes or improvements to a building, site, or structure within a historic district are consistent with the historic character and preservation guidelines of the area.

Decisionmaker The Historic Preservation Commission makes the final decision.

Appeals The Commission's decision can be appealed to the Village Board for final determination.

The following are involved in the review of this type of application.

The Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) helps to administer the Village's historic district. Members are appointed by the Village President to three-year, overlapping terms and represent a cross-section of the village's population and demonstrate an interest in historic preservation.

Planning staff provides technical support to the Village Board, Plan Commission, Historic Preservation Commission, Board of Zoning and Building Appeals, developers, neighbors, and other interested parties to facilitate the development review process.
